We »re looking for a 2nd Class Fireperson in our Power Plant. The Fireperson is responsible for the operation of all power plant equipment during his/her watch ensuring the continuous generation of steam and electricity to the plant. This includes the starting and shutting down of boilers, turbines and feed water pumps. This candidate must, at all times, be able to clearly communicate with; other power plant personnel, and any company production area personnel; the current status of the Crane central steam delivery system. In addition, the fireperson must be competent in administering the feed water testing program as needed. This is a rotating shift position that will also require the ability to work weekends and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of a 2nd Class Firemen’s License. If no license is held, must actively pursue such a license by taking a minimum of one state exam per year
  • Continuous education requirements must be kept up to date
  • Take the necessary 3 hours/week, 14 week, 2nd Class Fireman’s course. This will train you to:
    • Operate of high pressure boilers
    • Gain knowledge of emergency shutdown procedures for the power plants
    • Operate auxiliary plant equipment
  • Ability to learn computers
  • Ability to work independently and with others in a teamwork environment with minimal direction
  • Competent in basic mathematics
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude
  • Knowledge and understanding of company policies and procedures
  • Effective time management
  • Effective communications skills with the ability to communicate both written and verbal
  • Solid troubleshooting, analytical, skills
  • Detailed, and organized, record keeping ability
  • Complete all continuing education requirements of the MA Dept of Public Safety for licensing renewal
  • Actively pursue and attain a 1st Class Firemen’s license within 8 months of securing the position
  • Actively pursue and attain a 3rd Class Engineer’s license within 2 years of securing the position
