Job overview

Building on the success of the innovative same day emergency care (SDEC) pathway for spinal pain, Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is looking to expand the Advanced Practitioner led service. The Advanced Spinal Practitioner service is responsible for the triage, assessment and management of all chronic spinal patients referred to the spinal outpatient department. The service has successfully grown over the last 10 years and now supports degenerative, deformity, emergency and injection pathways. The service innovation and transformation has been recognised and celebrated both locally and nationally.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and highly motivated physiotherapists to join the Spinal Practitioner team in delivering and shaping the future of spinal provision at NUH. Applicants must have experience in the triage and management of spinal pain and pathology, and preferably have experience working as an Advanced Practitioner. We are looking for applicants with dynamic leadership skills who can think strategically to innovate, support, and develop, the current service. We have permanent, 1.8 WTE, Band 8A positions; job share options will be considered and can be discussed at the interview stage

Main duties of the job

The Advanced Spinal Practitioner Service at NUH is responsible for triaging spinal patients presenting for a surgical opinion. Working closely with the surgical team, the service has transformed patient care across degenerative, deformity, emergency and injection pathways. The service prides itself on constantly evolving to meet the needs of patients whilst balancing the demands of an acute healthcare system. The successful applicants will be responsible for delivering, leading and innovating the emergency pathway as well as delivering, in part, chronic surgical triage. The Advanced Practitioner roles are clinically focussed with time built in for research and strategic service improvement work. The posts are line managed and supported by the Spinal Physiotherapy Consultant and will work closely with the surgical Head of Service, Speciality General Managers and Spinal Fellows
