We are looking for an Associate Director to join our Environmental Solutions team in the Project and Programme Management (PPM) discipline.
Our work centres on implementing environmental engineering schemes, major multi-disciplinary survey and investigation programmes, remediation and mitigation of green and brownfield project risk for a wide variety of clients and sectors.
Nature-based solutions are a key growth area in seeking to deliver environmental net gain, be that removal of invasive species or creation of new habitat.
We are a trusted Delivery Partner for our clients on exciting projects and the premier UK service provider for bespoke programmes involving significant elements of specialist environmental consultancy and siteworks as well as delivery management for major projects.
With a healthy pipeline of work, we are seeking team players with general experience of managing environmental and engineering projects as well as managing major multidisciplinary programmes spanning a number of years. You should be comfortable working with internal and external multidisciplinary teams, overseeing the work of our supply chain, ensuring technical quality expectations are met, and adherence to budget and programme. With a background in programme and project management , you will bring commercial acumen, strong project controls, conscientious reporting and collaborative inter-personal skills. You will use this to support project teams in meeting the timescales and technical demands for producing key deliverables.
This position provides the opportunity to work closely with and to exceed the expectations of internal and external clients. You will be forward thinking and have a proactive, ‘can do’ attitude. You will relish the challenge of demanding situations, steep learning curves, tight deadlines and delivering on complex project sites. Familiarity with differing contractual agreements, particularly NEC, would be advantageous as would having responsibility for controlling projects and ensuring deliverables are completed and submitted in time. Ideally, you will have or be working towards formal PM qualifications or accreditation. You should be competent in understanding, building and using MS Project and/or Primavera P6 schedules, with the support of a programme planner.
The successful applicant will work within the UK and elsewhere, depending on project demand. The role will likely involve a mixture of both some site work and office work. You will be expected to hit the ground running and will take a leading role in the management and delivery of projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary internal AECOM teams and our approved supply chain, as well as supporting the development of external client relationships.
Further details on responsibilities include:
- Programme management including management of client, contractor and stakeholder relationships.
- Manage, lead and coordinate the preparation and delivery of technical work by multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide commercial leadership, manage the project budget, financial forecasting, contractor procurement and ensure the team meets the agreed delivery programme.
- Ensure effective communication with the project team and clients, including reporting of fee forecasts, programme status and contract progress.
- Always apply and promote a high level of H&S compliance and quality management.
- Support the preparation of bids and proposals.
- Work with internal clients and grow opportunities within the AECOM business.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our services and team by evaluating project successes and challenges and sharing lessons learned to enhance performance within the business.
- Support marketing initiatives for the team.
- Understand clients’ needs and build sustainable relationships in order to meet our business development goals.
- Where appropriate, act as a mentor to more junior personnel.
Minimum Requirements:
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject.
- Project Management experience / qualification with competence in project financial and quality controls, contract management, and team management in the environmental sector.
- Excellent, pragmatic knowledge of the application of scheduling and programming, including understanding and developing a project programme with the assistance of a programme planner.
- Ability to communicate effectively and manage team members in a professional, sensitive and non-conflicting manner.
- Ability to prepare high quality professional presentations, reports and proposals/tenders.
- Motivated and committed with the ability to work independently or as part of a wider team, with the initiative to deliver a project from start/setup to finish/ validation of completion.
- Excellent planning, organisational skills and be a good time manager.
- Reasonable flexibility and willingness to travel to site locations where / when required.
