Job Description
Building: as determined by the Superintendent.
SUMMARY: Serves as secretary to the Principal (or Dean of Students) and as a facilitator for the school public being served.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Makes and receives telephone calls, takes messages, routes calls.
- Communicates with parents regarding student absences.
- Maintains school records and files for building, assistant principal, and related requirements.
- Serves as confidential secretary to Principal.
- Distributes mail for entire building.
- Greets all visitors.
- Types, prepares, distributes, files records/reports, correspondence etc. related to building functions and assistant principal needs.
- Completes Macomb County records and reports
- Maintains daily school announcements
- Manages college visits
- Attends Open House, parent teacher conferences
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Power School experience preferred.
- Must be able to type a minimum of 45 wpm.
- Various duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicates weekly regarding building use, building archives, etc.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Compensation and benefits as outlined by the collective bargaining agreement between Richmond Community Schools and Secretarial Unit, Teamsters State, County and Municipal Workers Local 214.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Relate to people in a positive manner, proficiency in the use of computer and office equipment, and able to work with minimum supervision and direction.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
College coursework/credit and previous school experience as well as PowerSchool and AS400 experience preferred, but not required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff and students. Ability to pass a skills test in this area.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to pass a typing test at 45 words per minute. Demonstrate ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to pass a skills test in this area.
