Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position will provide paraprofessional duties related to staff relations and employment. This role will be responsible for staff relations and employment activities (students, contingents, parking, tuition remission, and onboarding) for the units in the College Park City Hall building. The incumbent works on sensitive HR actions and must exercise discretion, tact and confidentiality at all times. Assigned to the Main Office HR Team, this role will also be responsible for administrative processes relative to medical leave. It will handle highly confidential medical information and work closely with HR Generalists to troubleshoot, respond, and find solutions to, complex medical leave issues.

Bachelor’s Degree
Experience:
Four years experience in administrative staff work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of reference and research methods and techniques used in collecting, compiling, and organizing data and information, working knowledge of analytical and statistical principles and techniques.
  • Skill in the use of office automation software and its applications, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, to handle sensitive materials with discretion and tact, to present ideas and information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to perform mathematical computations; to present statistical material in chart and graph form.
  • Ability to independently handle multiple tasks and set priorities.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources administration.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations such as ADA, EEO, and FLSA.

  • Ability to learn, interpret and apply human resource policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Excellent customer service skills. Must demonstrate competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with UMD Facilities Management systems and administrative processes including, but not limited to: Tririga, PHR, eterp, and more.
  • Ability to type 60wpm with 95% accuracy or greater, advanced facility with Excel spreadsheets and/or Google sheets for production of reports, familiarity with Adobe Sign, DocuSign and/or electronic document signature programs, familiarity with mail merges,
  • Ability to extract meaning from data and report trends.
  • High tolerance for change and ability to track multiple-level approval processes.

Additional Certifications:
Although driving a State Vehicle is not a requirement for this position, travel by foot or vehicle may be required from time to time for meetings, deliveries, etc. across campus. If driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess and maintain a valid class C Driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than six points.

Physical Demands
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment. Must be able to hear, see, speak, read, and use manual dexterity, fine motor skills to accomplish routine office tasks such as typing/data entry and/or using a keyboard. Must be able to push, pull, lift up to 20lbs, requires an ability to bend, sit, climb stairs, and/or footstool or ladder to reach files. Must have the ability to work both on-campus and virtually, walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.
