Job Description

Overview:

As an inspector, you will be doing a thorough inspection of intermodal containers, chassis and some rail van trailers. You will be looking for any defects that would cause a unit to either not be cargo worthy or FMCSA compliant. This work is all completed outdoors, walking and using a tablet for the data entry. There are several criteria’s for different customers that you will be learn and use throughout your day looking at specific equipment.

  • Outdoor/Indoor; work is primarily mobile in nature

  • Ability to stand and walk for an extended period.
  • Ability to stand, sit, talk, and hear
  • Ability to walk up and down rolling stairs
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate a computer and/or tablet

Typical Job Responsibilities:

  • Inspect units to ensure cargo worthy and road worthy
  • Take pictures of damages using tablet
  • Notate damage and wear and tear issues on tablet
  • Walk around units looking for defects
  • Data entry; importing and exporting data into the system with accuracy
  • Communicates effectively with drivers, lift operators, inspectors and customer service reps
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with owner operators/contractors, employees, and customers.
  • Able to maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Able to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Skill to use a personal computer, tablet and various software applications.
Preferred:
  • Experience within an intermodal operation.
  • Familiarity with Depot Systems software and windows tablets.
  • Industry knowledge or some general mechanical understanding.
Schedule:
  • Operation is open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday-Friday, typical schedule is 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, but schedule can vary as job duties demand.

Education:

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
