Job Description
DARE COUNTY SCHOOLS
Title: Director of Secondary Education
Location: Dare County Central Office
Reports to: Superintendent
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Responsibilities:
- Direct the planning, organization, and administration of all aspects of the secondary curriculum for the school system
- Guide implementation of instructional goals, programs, and materials for middle and high schools
- Lead district-wide secondary curriculum alignment with efforts to ensure consistency and parity across the curriculum, working collaboratively with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Elementary Education and Director of Exceptional Children/504 Services
- Provide for continued implementation and monitoring of on-going curriculum initiatives to include: Benchmark Testing, Check-Ins, District-wide Pacing Guides, and Differentiated Instruction
- Lead district-wide efforts to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment and articulation
- Meet regularly with secondary instructional staff by level, departments, and grades to provide curriculum articulations
- Assist in planning monthly principals’ meetings and facilitate secondary breakout sessions to address specific items of interest with this group
- Work with secondary principals, team leaders, and teachers to fully implement the Standard Course of Study; identify and develop best teaching practices
- Provide leadership to secondary principals for daily operational issues, in conjunction with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent based on areas of oversight and situations that arise
- Supervise and contribute to the evaluation of the Administrative Assistant to Instruction, and principals at the secondary level
- Respond to parent concerns and follow-up investigations
- Develop and present Board of Education reports
- Plan Leadership Retreat in collaboration with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
- Review School Improvement Plans for compliance and timely updates
- Monitor class size
- Monitor K-12 Strings Program
- Plan and provide quality professional development programs directly related to instructional goals and programs
- Assist in the annual budget process and review related personnel assignments (transfer requests, etc.)
- Approve secondary field trips
- Monitor progress with the district’s Strategic Plan
- Perform other duties as directed by the Superintendent
