Job Description

About the Role

Howard House Surgery is looking to recruit an experienced healthcare assistant to join our practice within primary care, where you will be part of a supportive and professional nursing team. This is an additional role to support our ongoing care of patients with long term conditions.
The vacancy is for 24 hours per week, over 3 days, however, this may be negotiable for the right candidate. Flexibility is crucial to accommodate training, holidays and occasional sickness.
The main duties of this role will include:
  • consultations with patients either face to face, via video, or over the phone
  • venepuncture
  • authorised vaccinations and injections such as, but not limited to, Flu and B12 (if you have completed the necessary training)
  • health check screening
  • diabetic foot checks
  • blood pressure checks, including manual
  • ECG
  • lifestyle advice
  • memory testing
  • audiology
The selection process for this role will include a minimum of 2 people at the interview which will be week commencing 28th November.

About the Candidate

If you have a experience working as a healthcare assistant, are looking for a new challenge and to learn new skills, then this could be a perfect opportunity for you. Support and training will be provided.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Experience of working as a healthcare assistant
  • GCSE grade A to C in English and maths
  • Willingness to work towards the Primary Health Care Assistant Certificate
  • Excellent computer skills, to enable you to make appointments and enter information on clinical computer systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work both in a team and on your own
Desirable skills and experience:
  • Experience of working in a GP practice
  • Has experience of customer care or experience of being a carer
  • Experience of working in a care environment
  • Understanding of SystmOne is preferred but not essential
