Job Description
This role assists leadership in providing expert leadership and managerial guidance for the performance of the Department of Medical Ethics [DME], with particular focus on the engagement of staff. The role assists the leadership in planning, organizing, leading, and managing the resources of the Department of Medical Ethics for the effective and efficient achievement of organizational and departmental goals and priorities.
The role actively communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with leadership throughout CHOP to create partnerships that enhance the ethical quality of deliberation, decision-making, and conduct of all members of the CHOP staff.
- Has lead responsibility for a specific function of the Department:
- Education and engagement of CHOP nursing staff regarding medical ethics
- Participates in Department activities regarding the following functions:
- Conduct of clinical ethics consultations
- Support of the CHOP Ethics Committee
- Development, review, and revision of ethically pertinent CHOP policies
- Advancing the quality of pediatric ethics with patients, families, and society
- Wide-ranging efforts to improve the ethical quality of CHOP staff conduct
- Creates and maintains an environment where staff feel valued, appreciated, and recognized.
- Recruits, coaches, develops, and retains qualified, competent staff. Ensures that all staff meet all requirements of their positions.
- Seven (7) years related ethics experience
- Five (5) years of clinical ethics consultation experience
- Three (3) years of lead, supervisory or management experience
- Nine (9) years related ethics experience in health care setting
- Seven (7) years of clinical ethics consultation experience
- Three (3) years of clinical care experience
- Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified (HCEC-C)
- High degree of internal integrity and willingness to speak up
- Well-calibrated balance of humility and decisiveness
- Ability to confront adversity with candor, compassion, and integrity
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
