Job Summary

A Research Scientist II position is available in the laboratory of Dr. David Teachey at the Center for Childhood Cancer Research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN). This position is part of a research program to understand the molecular mechanisms of acute leukemia as a means to develop novel therapeutic approaches in both precision medicine and immunotherapy. The laboratory uses patient derived xenograft mouse models generated as well as cell lines to recapitulate the human disease. We also lead large genomic profiling efforts in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and lymphoma, performing bulk sequencing as well as single cell profiling of thousands of patient samples from children treated on clinical trials. Our lab has translated multiple small molecule inhibitors and immunotherapies into the clinic. Often we perform pre-clinical drug development in the lab, design and lead the affiliated clinical trials (both local and international) and then receive and test correlative patient samples from those trials to study mechanisms of response and resistance to novel treatments including CAR-T.
Strong experimental skill in basic molecular biology techniques are a prerequisite (DNA, RNA, protein analysis, protein pull downs, cloning, cell culture, multi-parameter flow cytometry, cytotoxicity, apoptosis and cell cycle assays)
Strong preference will be given to candidates with the at least two or more of following specific skills:
  • Experience in research in bulk (whole genome and whole transciptome sequencing) and single cell omic profiling (scRNAseq, scATACseq).
  • Experience in mouse hematopoiesis and leukemia models, including leukemia xenografts.
  • Experience in research involving primary patient material including regulatory aspects of this type of research and interaction with other researchers/groups within collaborative projects.
