Job Description


AECOM
is seeking a Science Manager for a senior practitioner and leadership role in our well-respected and successful Ecological Assessment and Restoration Services group located in Portland, OR. Requires demonstrated experience navigating the requirements of environmental permits and regulations (including wetland and other natural resource-related permitting), completing restoration planning integrated with engineering teams, and conducting monitoring and/or environmental regulatory compliance. In addition to technical expertise, the position may include managing projects, clients, and staff, as well as pursuing business development opportunities. This position will be based in AECOM’s Portland office, with opportunities to work across our closely integrated offices throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

The responsibilities of this position generally include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for a department or a major project team.
  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Directs other professionals, scientists, and technical staff.
  • Guides the process of the completion of milestones associated with specific projects.
  • Widely applies technical principles and concepts in development of sampling plans and interpretation of data.
  • Coordinates development of major project documents.
  • Participates in studies, project definitions and technical requirements.
  • Supervises group of scientists and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.

Qualifications


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, or a related field.
  • 8 years of relevant work experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/ or education.
  • Must have valid driver »s license,


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Botany, or a related field.
  • 8 years of progressively responsible experience in business development, managing projects, QA/QC, developing and implementing budgets, schedules, and scopes of work from pre-field tasks to final report preparation.
  • Knowledgeable about state and federal environmental regulations (including the Endangered Species Act, Section 404 and 401 of the Clean Water Act, NEPA, and Oregon Removal/Fill laws), permitting triggers, permit application requirements, and typical challenges and strategies related to environmental permitting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with both clients and internal staff.
  • Experienced in task and budget management.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Good organizational skills and a strong detail-oriented work style.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising, mentoring, and providing leadership for other natural resources professionals.
  • Project Management and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in restoration planning and design.
  • Prior related work experience in the state of Oregon.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based approaches to Climate Change Adaptation.
