Job Description
Reporting Scotland is looking for an experienced journalist to work on our main 1830 programme. Do you have a nose for a good story and an eye for making creative, engaging and informative television news? You should have first class news and editorial judgement, in-depth knowledge of the Scottish news agenda and a keen understanding of Scotland’s political system and institutions. You should be passionate about television news, have the drive to reach new and diverse audiences and find new and creative ways of storytelling
Main Responsibilities
- Plan and produce the 1330 and 1830 editions of Reporting Scotland.
- Suggest and develop original stories and creative ways of storytelling.
- Lead a team of correspondents and reporters to deliver informative and engaging news stories that matter to our audience.
- Write clear, accurate and engaging scripts.
- Act as first referral point for legal and editorial queries.
- Produce packages using appropriate production techniques and to write and supervise the editing of complex packages and programmes.
- Allocate work to broadcast journalists and check progress of work; be responsible for the professional contribution of staff and for the quality of output provided and give clear and constructive feedback to those involved in making programmes.
- Have a broad understanding of Scotland’s politics, social issues, sport and culture.
- Brief and collaborate with presenters on live interviews.
- Value collaboration and team-working with all other areas of the news operation, the rest of BBC Scotland, and BBC network news
Are you the right candidate?
You will have significant journalistic experience and a demonstrable track record in news programme making . You need the ability to lead a team and inspire others around you to achieve the highest standards in creativity and accuracy. You will be expected to take a lead role in editorial meetings and be able to make a contribution to how the news department shapes the stories of the day across all platforms as well as pitch your own ideas and treatments. You will have a good understanding of our audience and play a key role in reaching out to new and diverse ones. You will thrive under pressure and be a confident decision maker. This role requires solid technical skills including desktop video editing, a flair for television graphics and an understanding of the automation systems in our news galleries.

Contract: Fixed Term Full Time (6 Months)
Location:Glasgow
You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.
