Job Description

A role of Senior Reviewing Officer has come up with Redditch Borough Council for a duration of 3 months ongoing assignment.
Pay – £30.00 /hr Umbrella
Address – Town Hall, Redditch, B98 8AH.

Job purpose:

Conduct independent and objective enquiries into applications, decisions and appeals made under Housing and Homelessness Legislation and guidance to determine legally robust outcomes and final decisions.

Main duties:

  • Support the strategic and operational managers in delivering the vision, strategies and initiatives for the Housing, Tenancy & Advisory Team of which you are an integral part.
  • In accordance with the Redditch Borough Council Allocations Policy, conduct independent and objective enquiries into applications, decisions and appeals made under the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and have regard to the Code of Guidance 2017 and within the legal framework, determine and record legally robust outcomes and final decisions.
  • Be responsible for recording and co-ordinating reviews of appeals to landlord decisions to end Introductory Tenancies in accordance with the Introductory Tenancy Management Policy.
  • Be responsible for handling all Stage 1 complaints made about the Housing, Tenancy & Advisory Service and where the complaint cuts across Environmental or Repairs & Maintenance Services, take the lead in investigating, resolving, responding, and learning, inclusive of the complainant and preventing escalation wherever possible.
  • Build and maintain positive and constructive relations with Elected and Parliamentary Members and Officers, acting as their reliable first port of call and single point of contact for all enquires. Record and investigate all enquiries thoroughly, update regularly and respond fully, ensuring that any actions agreed to fully resolve an enquiry are completed before concluding the enquiry.
  • Engage and communicate with all people in your contact in the discharge of your duties calmly, clearly, and respectfully, even when the situation is complex, highly charged, inflammatory or emotive, act to de-escalate and meaningfully engage the complainant in the process of resolution, learning and service improvement wherever possible.
  • Respond to all request for data, statistics, and information, including requests made under the Freedom of Information Act and Subject Access Requests, in collaboration with the Information Management Team to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Actively support a culture that, inclusive of the complainant or appellant, learns from any mistakes and failures and seizes opportunities to use learning to continuously improve housing services.
  • Ensure both yourself and your team maintain and share up-to-date knowledge of housing legislation, regulation, policy, and best practice.
