Job Summary

It »s a great time to join CHOP »s team of breakthrough makers! Our Accounting team under Research Administration is looking for a Staff Accountant I! The Staff Accountant I will work under direct supervision, performs professional accounting duties.

Job Responsibilities

  • Transaction Processing – prepare and understand journal entries; enter journal entries into the general ledger system within 5 business days; review all posted entries into the general ledger to ensure accuracy; analyze accounts; reconcile assigned accounts on a monthly basis
  • Internal Controls – ensure accurate interfaces (accounts payable, CHOP or PENN payroll allocations, billing, asset management, etc.); prepare monthly account and bank reconciliations for assigned accounts within 10 business days; investigate and correct all variances uncovered during reconciliations.
  • Customer Service – ensure emails and phone calls are responded to within 1 business day; work professionally with other departments: assist operations with all accounting and finance needs, such as reporting or training.
  • Special Projects – annual Audit and Tax filings – support a clean monthly, quarter and annual close and a clean audit and tax process. Complete annual goals, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
  • If Practice Plan based, may be responsible to ensure University salary paid to physicians agrees to the Salary Plan or approved salary changes, maintain documentation for all approved University salary changes and additional distributions 100% of the time, and process all University monthly, weekly, and variable distributions according to the payroll closing schedule.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: College accounting, finance, or business degree

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Advanced accounting, finance, or business degree

Preferred Experience: Three (3) years or more experience in Healthcare Accounting

Excellent attention to detail, organized, computer skills, strong analytical skills

CHOP also requires all workforce members who work in patient care buildings or who provide patient care to receive an annual influenza vaccine. Employees may request exemption consideration for CHOP vaccine requirements for valid religious and medical reasons. Please note start dates may be delayed until candidates are fully immunized or valid exemption requests are reviewed. In addition, candidates other than those in positions with regularly scheduled hours in New Jersey, must attest to not using tobacco products.
