Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Support Service Worker for the McFarland Mental Health Center to perform various duties in Dietary Department assisting with the preparation of serving food items for the patients. Works on serving line during meals. Performs cleaning and maintenance work in the food service area. Assists with the stocking of food items. Sets cafeteria area up for meal service.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs various duties in Dietary Department assisting with the preparation of serving food items for the patients.
- Prepares fresh fruits, vegetables and cold items for patient meal trays using food safety techniques learned during Food Handler Certification.
- Works on serving line during meals.
- Operates and maintains pot/pan machine and conveyor dish machine.
- Using proper chemicals, detergents and sanitizing techniques, cleans and sanitizes surfaces of dietary work areas, service areas, equipment, counters, storage areas, floors, furnishings in the kitchen, dining area and operates dishwasher.
- Sets cafeteria area up for meal service by cleaning/sanitizing tray line surfaces, tables, chairs and floors.
- Lifts and carries dietary stock to storage areas, including weekly delivery’s and large BidBuy delivery’s weighing up to 35 lbs.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of High School supplemented by six months experience in the Dietary Units.
Conditions of Employment
- Per P.A. 098-0566, requires ability to complete a food handling training course within 30 days of employment.
- Requires ability to lift up to 35 pounds and perform heavy physical work.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
- Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
Work Hours: 10:00am-6:00pm & 6:00am-2:00pm on weekends/holidays, RDO work every 3rd weekend
