Job Description
The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) is seeking an experienced Transportation Specialist 3 in the Transportation Safety Division to review and analyze motor carrier data, including information needed for program management, accountability, planning, and performance. The Transportation Specialist 3 will provide administrative support for the Director, Assistant Director, and Motor Carrier Safety Supervisor within the Transportation Safety division. This role supports UTC’s mission to protect consumers by supporting activities that ensure regulated transportation companies provide safe services and comply with federal and state safety requirements.

- Independently review and analyze motor carrier safety data including information needed for program management, accountability, planning, and performance. Gather information and create MCSAP reports summarizing the activity of Motor Carrier investigators. Conduct internal audits on the MCSAP grant activities and financial data.
- Provide administrative support for Director, Assistant Director of Transportation Safety, and Motor Carrier Safety Supervisor.
- Perform internal audits of the Motor Carrier Safety programs grant funding for the purpose of ensuring quality control and regulatory compliance, as well as identifying potential vulnerabilities. Make recommendations to management about potential resolutions to vulnerabilities by preparing and presenting reports that reflect findings.
- Assist Motor Carrier Safety, Licensing Services, and Solid Waste programs with process improvement projects and Process Evaluation Team (PET) projects. Support the analysis, planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of key projects to help achieve program goals.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
Although not required, preference may be given to candidates who have the following desired qualifications:
- Minimum of two years’ work experience researching, analyzing, and explaining data and laws, rules, or regulations.
- Minimum of one year experience providing general administrative support.
- Research and Analytical Compilation.
- Degree in business administration, public administration, transportation, or similar field.
- Experience with process improvement projects.
