The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking an Administrative Assistant V to provide administrative and program support for the operations of the Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Office. The TR programs are designed to provide individuals with disabilities fun and enriching experiences. We offer a variety of opportunities for participants to engage in adapted programs, outdoor recreation, social clubs, county-wide events, summer camps, and our popular Family Night Out.
Specific duties:
- Providing customer service to individuals and resolving complaints, explaining rules and procedures for accessing programs, communicating general County information to citizens, clients, or other County agencies;
- Managing program data, registration information, evaluations, budget information, performance measure data, and creating Excel spreadsheets;
- Preparing and distributing program materials and ensuring required documents are available prior to start of programs ( i.e. calendars, letters, emails, rosters, participant attendance sheets, program notebooks/forms, and support documents);
- Providing marketing, outreach, and logistical support to programs; including creating marketing materials to market through social media, websites, and newsletters, and recruiting participants for programs,
- Assisting with facilitation of recreation programs and inclusion services for individuals with disabilities, including researching and proposing new program ideas, developing programs with programmers, and supporting program implementation;
- Supporting the hiring process, including phone screening, scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, and completing onboarding paperwork;
- Supporting the training facilitation process, including researching topics, creating training materials/presentations, and record management;
- Performing routine office management, including securing facility reservations, collecting supplies, ordering program equipment and office supplies, along with managing electronic communication, telephone calls, office team calendar, and inventories;
- Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have experience providing customer service to individuals with disabilities and their families, effective communication skills, be flexible and adaptable as our programs vary in support seasonally, including the ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
Minimum:
- High School Diploma/equivalent; and
- Considerable experience providing administrative and/or program support.
Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in any of the following:
- Providing customer service to individuals with disabilities and their families;
- Recreation programming for individuals with disabilities;
- Supporting various types of recreation programs/services/tasks; and
- Using Microsoft Office Suite, Granicus/GovDelivery, Open Cities, Survey Monkey, and RecTrac/registration software.
A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. The position may have a varying schedule to accommodate programs/trainings that are offered evenings and weekends from different county locations.
