POSITION SUMMARY
The Illinois Department of Central Management Services is seeking to hire an organized and detail-oriented Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker at our Collinsville area. This position will assist with a variety of labor/tasks including maintenance of buildings and grounds utilizing provided tools and equipment. This position will be responsible for the maintaining of interior cleanliness of building at the Collinsville Regional Office Building along with performing journeyman work related to maintaining heating/cooling temperatures while adhering to state and federal codes and standards. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Under direct supervision of Facilities Manager, performs non-skilled building and grounds work for the Collinsville Illinois State Police (ISP) District Head Quarters and other CMS operated facilities and/or centers within the Central & Southern Region as needed.
Performs exterior maintenance, cleaning walkways, entrances, grounds, and roadsides.
Assists skilled craftsman in performing a variety of semi-skilled work below the journey level such as making minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and refrigeration equipment.
Maintains equipment in proper working order.
Travels to and monitors various other assigned facilities within the Central/Southern Region as necessary to ensure facilities are maintained on a regular basis.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires one year of maintenance work experience preferably associated with the building and mechanical trades and/or heavy equipment operation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prefers one (1) year of professional experience using hand and power tools, operating heavy equipment, and/or performing semiskilled manual work in a safe manner.
Prefers one (1) year of professional experience gaining knowledge of construction and maintenance tools, equipment, and building materials.
Prefers one (1) year of professional experience following written and oral instructions including blueprints and other diagrams.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This position requires the applicant to pass an Illinois State Police background check.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
- Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied material/equipment (i.e., pager, cell phone, etc.).
Requires ability to lift 50 lbs. and assist with lifting to 75 lbs.
Requires a valid, appropriate driver’s license and the ability to travel.
