We are seeking a family time worker (social service assistant) to join our Child Welfare team in Salem.

What you need to qualify:
One year of experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs, or occupational skills programs.
OR
Possession of a current certification in child development, early childhood education, addiction counseling preparation or juvenile corrections.
OR
45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training.
OR
An associate degree in a field not closely related to social work/human services AND six months of human services-related experience (e.g. work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).
A valid driver license and acceptable driving record are necessary for this position.

We are looking for candidates with:
  • Knowledge, training, and/or education surrounding addiction, mental health and/or trauma.
  • Knowledge, training, and/or education in child development.
  • The ability to work and learn independently while managing time successfully.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to engage with a variety of people, the ability to de-escalate tense situations, and the ability to be assertive when necessary.
  • Experience using MS Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience writing documents or reports in plain language using correct grammar/spelling.

that will support children and young adults to be safer, healthier, experience less trauma and achieve a greater well-being.

As a family time worker, you will be:
  • Implementing visitation agreements by meeting with caseworkers, clients, and caregivers.
  • Gathering information from case providers, clients, family members, schools, and others to plan family time/visitation.
  • Providing information to families about community services and resources.
  • Identifying and recommending services to caseworkers for planning purposes.
  • Transporting children to and from family time and supporting their emotional needs by explaining the purpose of transport and answering questions.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of children during transportation and family time.
  • Escorting children to medical, counseling, and other appointments.
  • Taking comprehensive and accurate notes and entering info into OR-Kids (the Child Welfare Data System).
  • Preparing notes for court testimony, and occasionally testifying in court.
Working conditions:
  • Working hours are between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
  • Occasional compensated overtime may be required on nights and weekends.
  • Work may be conducted in offices, client homes, and other community sites.
  • Some travel is required, including during inclement weather.
  • Work may involve lifting and carrying younger children, car seats, diaper bags, and other items.
  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma, exhibit challenges in controlling their anger, or other unexpected emotions impacted by drug use, cognitive impairments, or other factors.
