Job Description

We are looking for a Freedom To Speak Up Guardian (FTSU) to support the culture of speaking up throughout the organisation and ensure speaking up processes are effective and continuously improved.

As part of The Freedom to Speak Up Guardian team , you will be responsible for taking action to promote the FTSU process and ensure that employees throughout the Trust have the capability, knowledge, and skills they need to speak up themselves and to support others to speak up.

You will be at the forefront of our Freedom to Speak Up strategy and will play a pivotal role in supporting the development of a positive speaking up culture across the organisation.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that speaking up policies and processes are effective and constantly improved, and ensure that action is taken to support any groups that may face barriers to speaking up.

To support the work of the Trust to help embed the FTSU strategy and further enhance staff engagement with hard to reach staff groups and those identifying with protected characteristics.

The post is fixed term: 6 months (could be secondment opportunity if internal candidate) There is an expectation that the role is flexible and remote / home working will be required.

The Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) Guardian will work alongside trust leadership teams to support the organisation in becoming a more open and transparent place to work, where all staff are actively encouraged and enabled to speak up safely. They will play a leading role in promoting a culture of transparency and safety of all our service users, visitors, staff, and volunteers.

The postholder will act as an independent Lead advisor in promoting the processes through which these concerns can be raised.

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
