Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, innovative, flexible and well-motivated Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy assistant to join the East Integrated Rehabilitation Team based with the inpatient therapy team at Liskeard Hospital.
To undertake specific skilled occupational therapy and physiotherapy support work (e.g. carrying out assessments using various treatment skills) to aid the rehabilitation of patients.
To plan and implement interventions, using various treatment skills and to monitor progress and evaluate the outcome.
To encourage patients and carers in an active approach to regaining and maintaining personal independence.
To support the occupational therapists and physiotherapists by carrying out timely reviews of rehab care plans. To actively participate in the discharge planning process from start to finish with support from Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy colleagues and the MDT.
Main duties of the job
We deliver Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in the East Cornwall locality to individuals with a Primary Physical Health condition in variety of ways:
- Launceston and Liskeard Community Hospitals – GP-led 18-bedded and 44-bedded rehabilitation units working as part of a team of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Therapy support workers
- Community Rehabilitation Team – within the person’s home environment and intervention targeted at a wide variety of conditions, eg long-term, neurological, orthopaedic, falls, frailty
- Intermediate Care – A more urgent service and working closely with the Home First/Early intervention team in the most appropriate environment for the individual
- East Community Orthopaedic Service Team – A community Therapy team for patients undergoing elective hip and knee replacement surgery in Plymouth.
- The Integrated Therapy team works closely with Specialist Therapy teams and is part of the East Cornwall Locality integrated Care Team working with Community Nursing, Social Care, Volunteer and Mental Health teams
- It will be an expectation of this post that on occasion, the person works flexibly across other areas of care.
- Ability to travel independently is an essential part of this role
- Regular clinical supervision will be provided and continuing professional development encouraged.

- 7 day working may be a requirement of this post in the future.

- GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
- NVQ4 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience
- IELTS unless qualification taken in English

- Substantial previous experience working as a therapy support worker in a similar setting
- Extensive experience of working in a range of therapy/care settings
- Experience of working without direct supervision
