Job Description
The Department of Agriculture, Plant Protection Division, is seeking a knowledgeable candidate for the position of Laboratory Assistant to assist staff in the Division of Plant Protection with laboratory, greenhouse, field, and office work related to plant disease surveillance and diagnosis. In this position, you will assist with surveys for the presence of high-risk plant diseases around the state of Pennsylvania. Collect plant, water and soil samples. Contact growers to obtain information for survey. Provide basic information regarding plant disease surveys. You will alos navigate to field survey sites using maps and/or GPS tools available. Collect field data using survey app.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Temporary Full-time employment.
- Position will run from January 3rd, 2023 to September 30, 2023.
- Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 1 day per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- No previous experience and training required.
Additional Requirements:
- Candidate must be willing and able to work in Dauphin County, PA.
- Candidate must be willing to work a temporary Full-Time schedule without benefits.
- Candidate needs to be available to work up to 9 months, approximately from January 3rd, 2023, to September 30, 2023.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualification:
- Experience working in laboratory.
- Experience in collecting plant samples
- Experience processing samples for testing
- Experience in preparing buffer solutions
- Experience in ELISA
- Experience in nucleic acid extraction
- Experience in PCR and gel electrophoresis
- Experience in organizing lab supplies
- Experience in entering data from samples
- Experience in washing laboratory glassware
- Experience in Microsoft Excel
