Description:
The purpose of the Operator I position is to operate or tend machines to prepare commercial, industrial or consumer products for storage or shipment, or perform other general labor at the Water Products Business at the Alpharetta Plant by operating, monitoring and maintaining equipment at the site. This position performs duties in accordance with safety and quality standards and to meet customer requirements.
- Work to attain the purpose, “Zero injuries, Zero process incidents, Zero distribution incidents, and Zero environmental incidents.”
- Participate in monthly safety and housekeeping audits and raise concerns to management. Ensure that housekeeping is customer-ready at all times.
- Implement assigned action items in a timely manner.
- Participate in corrective actions stemming from incident investigations.
- Properly wear and use personnel protective equipment while performing essential functions of the job, including but not limited to hard hat, safety toe work boots, safety glasses/goggles, protective clothing and respiratory protection.
- Complete process/environmental/safety log sheets and daily production reports as needed.
- Assist with ensuring that all Quality processes are followed. Participate in quality checks as required. Work with Quality Control laboratory to ensure that finished/packaged product samples are collected in a timely fashion
- Help Quality Assurance close quality action items.
- Conducts all tasks with care in order to maintain integrity of the process and quality of raw materials/finished goods.
- Conduct tests, inspections, and complete documentation of materials or processes to evaluate quality or performance, as prescribed.
- Receive oral instructions, to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs to meet the production schedule. Understand all work instructions and ask for clarification, as appropriate, to meet expectations for production, safety, and efficiency.
- Read order forms, work orders, and other production documents to understand the packaging needs and specifications to be fulfilled.
- Manipulate/monitor/adjust raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Load materials and products into package processing equipment. Remove products and material or workpieces from production equipment.
- Operate or tend machines to prepare commercial, industrial or consumer products for storage or shipment.
- Monitor processes through manual controls or automated systems at direction of supervision. Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to standards. Monitor the production line, watching for problems such as pile-ups, jams, or improper functioning. Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Sort, grade, weigh, and inspect products, verifying and adjusting product weight or measurement to meet specifications.
- Attach identifiers, such as labels, to materials and inventory, such as lot numbers or shipping destinations.
- Stock and sort product for packaging or filling machine operation, and replenish packaging supplies.
- Clean containers, materials, supplies, or work areas using cleaning solutions and hand tools.
- Record product, packaging, and order information on specified forms or documents by hand or by data entry into specified systems/spreadsheets, in an accurate and timely manner.
- Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packaging specifications are met.
- Stack inventory in locations as directed.
- Participate in correct set up, operation and shut down of filling lines so that operational efficiency is maintained within standards.
- Be able to use the functional tools required for the position such as: box cutters, box sealing tape dispensers, bundling equipment, form/fill/sealing machinery, staple guns, stretch wrap dispensers and other wrapping machinery, strapping tensioners or sealers.
- Perform housekeeping duties per requirements.
- Support other Production Processes (Blend Room / Liquid Fill / Dry Fill / Kitting / Maintenance / Etc.) as needed.
- Promptly report problems and potential problems to a member of the management team. Suggest need for maintenance work orders to supervision where appropriate.
- Work with supervision and maintenance personnel in the identification, preparation (i.e. lock-out/tag-out) and re-commissioning of process components/equipment.
- Participate in corporate, process, equipment, technology, safety, health and environmental training, as required.
- Follow Alpharetta Plant Work Rules.
- Operate process equipment in most efficient and effective manner to minimize plant costs.
Qualifications:
- High School Degree or equivalent
- Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is desired
- Teamwork skills
- Familiarity with computer applications and spreadsheets is also beneficial.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Able to provide service to others and work with co-workers in a friendly non-competitive team
- Able to be careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks
- Able to deal with stressful demands
- Able to wear and properly use common Protective or Safety Equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats
