Job overview

Nottingham Newborn Screening service is seeking 2 part-time competent, motivated and reliable individuals to work 22.5 hours flexibly Monday to Friday within our Maternity and family health service at Nottingham University Hospitals working at both City and QMC campuses. These roles require excellent verbal and written communication and the successful candidates will work closely with the Screening Midwives and failsafe Officer. The post holders will need to use their initiative and administrative skills to develop processes and ensure the effective provision of a quality service. This is a newly created role to support the vaccination program of Newborn babies.

The successful candidates are required to be conscientious, have a flexible approach to work, be enthusiastic team players, have excellent organisational skills and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of confidentiality issues. You will have the ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritise your workload to meet agreed plans and deadlines, use your own initiative and respond to queries within and outside of the organisation in a professional manner.

It is preferably that you have previous experience of working in a busy NHS environment with excellent IT skills and knowledge of hospital software. The candidates need to demonstrate attention to detail with the ability to accurately record detailed information in a timely manner.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for arranging new and follow up appointments

Using Medway PAS and other electronic systems as instructed by the Midwifery Screening team

Ensure Referral to treatment patient data quality is accurate at all times.

Deal appropriately with enquiries, by telephone and in person, from staff and the general public, seeking advice or referring elsewhere if necessary.

Manage the demand and capacity within the standard operating practice taking decision to escalate to the directorate management team any capacity issues.

Responds to any temporary day to day demand and capacity updates required in Medway

Print appointment/procedure confirmation letters as necessary and send to patients with the relevant information leaflets promptly.

Notify the designated person of any patients who fail to attend their appointment who will take necessary action in line with department and/or Trust policies.

Receive and respond to enquiries from relatives/external agencies adhering to Trust confidentiality guidelines at all times.

Be able to competently use Medway PAS and other information technology systems and participate in training programmes to develop and update personal skills to meet the needs of the department.

Present a professional, polite and courteous attitude at all times and be appropriately dressed when on duty.

Our organisation is driven by our strategic objectives and organisational values. A leading teaching hospital. The Maternity service is delivered across two Hospital sites and community providing care for approximately 8500 births annually

Our team currently consists of two Antenatal and Newborn screening Coordinators, two Ante natal and Newborn Screening Midwives a Newborn Screening link Midwife a Haemoglobinopathy Screening link Midwife and an Antenatal and newborn screening failsafe officer. The staff have offices at both City and QMC and work on the maternity wards, Labour suites, Neonatal Units and the Children »s wards. Roles are varied and work closely with a number of multidisciplinary teams and outside agencies.

Experience

    • Experience of MS Office
