An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Secretary to join our well-established secretarial team within the Cardiology Department.

Working for a team of Specialist Nurses and Consultants within the Inherited Cardiac Conditions service, you will provide a first class secretarial and administrative service to the Cardiology Specialist Nurses and ICC Consultants.

This vacancy will suit a confident, well-motivated, reliable and pro-active individual. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work under pressure. Being able to work as part of a team is essential.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of a wider team the post holder must exercise initiative to organise their own workload within defined deadlines. Use and maintain admin and patient information systems. Managing telephone calls inbound and outbound relating to patient specific care in a confidential, sensitive and empathetic manner with patients, GPs, other departments and the wider health community. Diary management. Accurately transcribing letters from digital dictation. Co-ordinating inpatient, outpatient and community referrals and managing the ICC outpatient clinics.

Training and Qualification

Essential:

RSA 3 word/text processing

GCSE x 5 to include English Language

Computer literate to ECDL or equivalent

Desirable

NVQ 3 in administration or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential

Significant experience in office administration, audio-typing, minute taking, medical terminology.

Uses correct grammar and spelling

Desirable

NHS experience in a similar role

Communication

Essential

Demonstrate the ability to provide and receive routine information which may sometimes be sensitive and complex

Demonstrate understanding of confidentiality and data protection

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

  • Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service – I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
