Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama. Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel are required.

Payroll experience is preferred.

The University of South Alabama’s department of Payroll Accounting is seeking to hire a Payroll Specialist. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Processes transfers between companies to include PTO payouts and verifying benefits and deductions are set up accurately; reviews leave reports for Healthcare Management to ensure they meet policy; completes leave reports for Healthcare Management; monitors web-time entry and percentage of pay collections for Healthcare Authority; sets up and monitors tax annuities for USA Healthcare Authority employees; processes all Uniform Deductions for Healthcare System and communicates with employees in corresponding departments to ensure accuracy of deductions; processes student personnel action forms and requisitions; processes graduate assistant personnel action forms and requisitions; responsible for accurate and timely on-line file maintenance for student and graduate assistant employees, to include taxes, direct deposits and other deductions as necessary; records changes In rates and labor change account distributions for student and graduate assistant employees; monitors Student Assistant hours to ensure compliance with the University Student Employment Policy and reports any non-compliance to the Office of Student Enrollment; collects and verifies receipt of time sheets for exempt Graduate Assistant Employees; monitors Graduate Assistant hours to ensure compliance with the University Graduate Assistant Policy and reports any non-compliance to the Graduate School Dean; researches stale dated checks for those that need to be reported to the state as unclaimed property; provides back up for calculating wage garnishment, child support and tax levy deductions as needed; provides back up for remitting garnishment, child support and tax levy payments by check and on-line ACH payments; provides back up on auditing, entering, and checking time sheets and applying personnel policies relating to time and attendance; communicates with employees by telephone and In person concerning wages, taxes and deductions, and explains gross to net variances; prepares and analyzes reports In Microsoft Excel; covers other areas of responsibility during absences; ensures confidentiality of employee Information; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined which may include holidays; and overtime as required; related duties as required.
