The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Personnel Technician, Job Code 235, TS 522 (260 Days), Salary Range TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit – none. This is a School Employees Retirement System Position.

QUALIFICATIONS – Required:
Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D.
A minimum of four years of experience in advanced office support work, preferably with Akron Public Schools. College course work in a related field may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Description:
This is advanced office and technical personnel support work. An employee in this classification assists professional personnel and other staff by providing specialized technical support in preparing personnel statistical reports, salary analysis and computations, and other administrative assignments. An employee in this classification works under general supervision with considerable opportunity for exercising independent judgment in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains the degree status of all certified, classified, and non-classified personnel and determines current pay eligibility level by evaluating college transcripts and prepares documentation for Board approval
Maintains records of classified personnel and support staff and determines current pay level and prepares documentation for Board approval
Research personnel and payroll records to prepare informational and historical reports as needed
Composes, types, and and proofs a variety of office correspondence, reports, and presentations
Prepares and mails employee contracts
Uses computer and related software to enter and retrieve various forms of data and perform advanced clerical duties
Establishes and maintains a variety of manual and computerized filing systems
Completes department payroll and distributes appropriate attendance forms
Monitors budgets and assists with budget preparation
Verifies accuracy of records, invoices, vouchers, forms, applications, budgets, proposals, reports and correspondence
Gathers statistical information and verifies accuracy of statistics
Complies complex reports and correspondence
Maintains personnel files-both paper and electronic-for all teaching and related positions, office support, educational assistants, child nutrition, and building maintenance and grounds personnel
Determines eligibility for and monitors leaves, long term absences, and maternity absences
Interfaces with City of Akron Personnel Department and a variety of public agencies in carrying out human resources functions
Prepares technical data, minutes, salary projects and contract language during negotiations with bargaining units
Assists administrative staff with reports and/or data necessary for contract negotiations
Implements new contract language for appropriate employee groups
Facilitates the hiring, transfer and assignment of staff in the appropriate classification
Monitors appraisal documents of all employees
Initiates, establishes procedures, and completes complex assignments
Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
Maintains respect for confidential information
Promotes good safety practices and procedures
Provides pertinent information regarding services and procedures of the department and Akron Public Schools
Attends meetings and in-services required to keep job-related knowledge current
Performs related work as required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of personnel administration methods and techniques
Knowledge of the organization, collective bargaining agreements and functions of the Akron Public Schools offices
Knowledge of Akron Board of Education rules, regulations, procedures, and functions
Skill in establishing and maintaining various types of multiple and cross filing and ready reference records systems
Skill in performing complex mathematical calculations and in formatting and preparing summary, statistical and historical records and reports
Skill in using the current network database system to enter employee assignments and employment statistics
Ability to type at a speed determined at the time of the appointment
Ability to prioritize, organize, manage time, and problem solve job duties
Ability to delegate and coordinate work to office assistants
Ability to initiate projects and follow through to completion of project
