Job Description
You will assist and participate in all aspects of work in the Broomfield Mortuary and Viewing Suite as a trainee shadowing qualified members of staff. You will work closely with the Mortuary team in the day-to-day running and planning of the mortuary service in the South East Essex area. To facilitate the post mortems for consultant pathologists, forensic pathologists and coroner’s officers.
Support the medical staff, nursing staff, other hospital staff, and funeral directors.
Assist the bereavement team supporting directly with emotional bereaved families and friends providing comfort and relevant information if required.
Undertake an academic training program to become a qualified technician, training by external providers and in house members of staff.

1. To participate in the level 3 APT qualifications, to study the syllabus and pass the coursework and exams set out by the training providers
2. To prepare deceased and support the Histopathologist as directed for all aspects of post-mortem examination
3. To participate in the ordering of materials, clean linen and disposal of waste, ensuring that sufficient stock levels are maintained and they are stored accordingly
4. To facilitate the collection of retained tissue and preparation for lawful disposal. Ensuring the safe custody and the lawful and respectful disposal of retained tissue in line with Trust policy, guidelines from the Retained Organs Commission and the Royal College of Pathologists.
