About the role

Bath School of Music and Performing Arts has an excellent reputation for training creatives in all aspects of music and performance. We aim to work across industry and academia, using our production company, Bath Spa Productions as a key mechanism for knowledge exchange. Available from February 2023, we have a vacancy for a Senior Lecturer in Directing and Dramaturgy to lead our MA Directing programme, but also to work on our MA and BA Acting courses, helping actors to understand how to work with directors and how to develop their own text-based work.

At BSU we believe that directors and actors work creatively and collectively, and that the role of director is in part about leading that process, but at other times is dramaturgical in its focus. Our students often create their own original work and need strategies to aid them to do so, equally they need to understand the necessity to work with directors throughout, workshop, rehearsal and performance processes.

About you (requirements)

You will have a proven industry record as director/theatre maker. Drawing on previous HE experience, you will understand how to balance that experience with supportive teaching that engages students. You will be an enabler who can help emerging artists to understand their role as actors working within workshop, rehearsal and production processes. You will have exceptional pastoral support skills and be able to lead courses, manage modules and oversee assessment activities. You will offer exciting ways of incorporating digital technology in your teaching.

You will be open-minded, flexible and willing to push boundaries as part of a team to keep us at the forefront of our disciplines. You will ideally have a postgraduate qualification appropriate to the subject area.

About us

Our purpose is to challenge our students and staff to realise their talent and thrive, for their own benefit and for the wider good. By doing this we will think and make the world better.

With excellent connections to industry, and EMMY and BAFTA award-winning graduates we offer great opportunity to work in a professionally-focused environment.
